Barack Obama: the official soundtrack

Ever wondered what hope sounds like?

Well, it sounds like a CD called Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement: the official soundtrack to the Barack Obama campaign. And there you were thinking it was the theme tune to Rocky.

The 18 (count ‘em!) track album is now on sale - $24.99 for a digital download, $30 for the physical product - and will help to fund Obama’s campaign.

It features the theme tune to Rocky both new and old songs, including Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours’, John Legend’s ‘Pride in the Name of Love’ (a rather earnest cover of the U2 song - yes, even more earnest than the original) and ‘Promised Land’, a track by Malik Yusef featuring Kanye West and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. Plus the obligatory song* by Sheryl Crow.

It also features John Mayer’s ‘Waiting On the World to Change’. Which, much as I love Mr Mayer, is an interesting choice - as it seems to be the ultimate slacker tune, saying that we want the world to change, but y’know, there’s nothing we can really do about it, so we’ll just sit around waiting for it to happen. As opposed to getting up off our arses and actually voting. Johnny boy: don’t you know that we are the ones we’ve been waiting for?!

*now there’s an idea for a title…
