The first post-debate ads
Thursday, October 16th, 2008The Obama campaign was first out of the gate with this one tying John McCain to Bush again, using his words from last night’s debate:
(Incidentally, one point that’s always bothered me: John McCain is proud of going against his party. And simultaneously attacks Barack Obama for not going against his party. But surely Barack Obama going against his party would mean him going for John McCain’s party – which John McCain is going against?)
Ah well. Onto the McCain campaign’s ad – which, from its opening line, is so unintentionally funny, it could be a parody. Johnny’s tone of voice is clearly attempting ‘Your favourite Grandpa reading you a bedtime story’ but falling horrifically short. Actually, no, correction: it does sound rather like your favourite Grandpa reading you a bedtime story. But that only serves to make it utterly bizarre when he’s saying lines like: “Bankrupting us with their spending” and “Your investments? They’ll grow again!” Aww. N’night, all!
