Obama takes Blagojevich down!

Sorry… for a moment there I thought I was in a Chicago gangster movie.

According to the New York Times, Barack Obama “placed the call” which led to Rod Blagojevich’s downfall. And then he turned around in his swivel chair, and stubbed out his cigarette.

Actually, Barack’s call only indirectly led to it. And he made it three months before Blagojevich’s “downfall”. But, y’know, I have a Chicago gangster movie to script here.

Here was Keith Olbermann’s take on the Blagojevich story last night. It includes a mention of our very own ITV News! And not in a good way:

    Obama’s Blagojevich story is crumbling.
Obama insisted that none of his staff had a part in the attempted selling of his Senate seat by Gov. Blagojevich. “I have never spoken with the governor on this subject. I am confident that no representative of mine would have any part in any deals related to this seat,” Obama said. It appears that Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, has been talking to Blagojevich. The details of those discussions are not yet known.

Intellectual Redneck – I don’t think what you’ve mentioned is his story “crumbling”.

Obama wins election; his senate seat becomes empty. Not surprisingly, Blagojevich talks to people in Chicagoan politics about who might take this seat (B being seedy, but not necessarily everyone he spoke to being similarly seedy).

One of those people is, unsurprisingly, Chicagoan political heavyweight and Obama advisor Rahm Emanuel. Rahm Emanuel offered no sort of “deal” (as Obama emphasised in your quote above). In fact, here’s what RE did -

quote: and this is from Fox, remember -

‘Fox’s source said that Emanuel gave the governor’s office a list of “candidates that would be acceptable to President-elect Barack Obama” but no “quid pro quo” or “dealmaking” is suspected.’

Now: try to prove to me what BHO did wrong? Or indeed RE (and whatever *his* middle initial is)? I hate to disillusion you, but not everyone’s corrupt, you know. ;-)

(Oh, and as the FBI have everything Blagojevich-related on tape, I think his discussions with RE *are* known. (double ;-) )
