Lindsay Lohan is snubbed by Obama

Well, not by the man himself. But by his campaign team.

Yes, despite her best efforts to get political and blog about the reasons why Sarah Palin would be bad for America – she even used the word “negate”! – Lindsay Lohan’s offer to help the Barack Obama campaign has been turned down with a polite “thanks, but no thanks”. (Which was how Sarah Palin turned down the Bridge to Nowhere, wasn’t it?)

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Lindsay offered to host a series of events aimed at younger voters, but the Democrats weren’t interested. “[Lindsay] is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us,” a source on the Obama team told the paper.

Cue the headline on the LA Times today: ‘Michael Lohan to Barack Obama: Let go of Lindsay’s past‘. To which you might quite reasonably cry: “But Michael, no one thinks about The Parent Trap any more!”

But Lindsay’s dad wasn’t referring to The Parent Trap. Oh no. He was referring to his daughter’s reputation for being what I believe is known as ‘a party animal’.

“For Barack Obama to condemn my daughter for past indiscretions when he admitted to the exact same himself is indicative of what kind of president he would be,” Michael Lohan told Fox News via email. “His visions of a positive future for this country should be representative of a positive future for people as well. It is looking beyond the difficult times and letting go of the past. Obviously, Obama can do this for himself and not others, when in fact a good president should have hope for all.”

And with that, he presumably decided to vote for John McCain. Well, I suppose there are worse reasons. Oh, and Michael: I think if there’s one person in this race who does have “hope”, it’s Barack Obama. Or did you miss that catchy slogan of his?
