David Plouffe rallies the troops

*Insert sound of bugle here*

Yes, Obama’s election campaign may be over – but we, the people his supporters, haven’t been forgotten.

An email from Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, arrived in my inbox yesterday. Saying:

“Andrea — (I love it when they use my first name)

Sign up for a house meeting Exactly one month ago, you made history by giving all Americans a real opportunity for change. (Well, I did my best from over here…)

Now it’s time to start preparing and working for change in our communities. (Oooh! *Claps hands excitedly*)

On December 13th and 14th, supporters are coming together in every part of the country (you mean ‘America’, right?) to reflect on what we’ve accomplished and plan the future of this movement. (Oooh again) Your ideas and feedback will be collected and used to guide this movement in the months and years ahead. (Really? Wow. Great stuff)

Join your friends and neighbors – sign up to host or attend a Change is Coming house meeting near you. (Erm, when you say ‘near you’… I’m 3,500 miles away from America. I mean, I could hold one. But I’m not sure how many Americans I can get to it)

Since the election, the challenges we face — and our responsibility to take action — have only gotten more urgent. (Ooh – ‘gotten’. I love the casual American vernacular!)

You can connect with fellow supporters, make progress on the issues you care about, and help shape the future of your community and our country. (I’m liking this. Inspiring us to change our community. Next, we’ll be organising it)

Learn what you can do now to support President-elect Obama’s agenda for change and continue to make a difference in your community. (Ditto)

Take the first important step by hosting or attending a Change is Coming house meeting. Sign up right now: (What? Now?!)

To get our country back on track, it will take all of us working together. (So we Brits can join in, too? Hurrah!)

Barack and Joe have a clear agenda and an unprecedented opportunity for change. But they can’t do it alone. (Aww, Joe… I miss Joe. *Sighs and looks wistful*)

Will you join us at a house meeting and help plan the next steps for this movement? (Yes I will! Well, except that my brother and sister and their families are coming to visit that weekend. And I’m not sure they’re quite into sitting down and talking about what we can do to change America…  I mean, we’re going ice-skating and to the Natural History Museum and stuff… But I can certainly talk to them about our local communities, and what we can do to help them)

Thanks, (No, thank *you*, David. Very inspiring email)

David
