Change we need to believe in
Keith Olbermann’s discussion with John Harwood last night – about Obama’s meeting with the National Governors’ Association – kinda got me thinking (as they say. Well, as our American friends say. On TV.):
It got me thinking that, in a strange way, the timing of Barack Obama’s presidency couldn’t be better. In the sense that his bipartisan approach to problem-solving – indeed, to politics, full stop – is absolutely what is required right now in America, in terms of fixing the economy.
I know that we supporters of BHO would rather, of course, that he didn’t have eight years of the Bush mess to clean up – both for his sake, and the country’s – but the very fact that he does means that, quite frankly, Republican opponents have little choice *but* to adopt the Obama politik. Or at least adapt to it. Because it’s not just change they can believe in. It’s change they really have no option but to believe in.
